Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta’s first smart glasses with a built-in display during the company’s Connect conference on Wednesday, as we mentioned in our article about upcoming tech in September 2025.
The brand-new Meta Ray-Ban Display keeps the classic Ray-Ban Wayfarer design, but adds augmented reality functionality without the bulk of a headset (like Apple Vision Pro, for example). Weighing just 69 grams, the glasses feature a high-resolution display embedded in the right lens.
What makes the RayBan Display revolutionary?
1. The new glasses are super lightweight
Being only 69 grams, you can wear them all day without head discomfort.
2. New control method
Meta’s new AR glasses come with a “Neural Band”. The innovative control allows you to control the device without voice, but only with gestures, and unlike other devices, the gestures are tracked via the new band, which understands all the hand movements.
The new smart glasses control method feels like a much more comfortable and accurate way to control the smart glasses – there is no need for glasses to detect your hand or make big hand movements – it detects all slight finger movements.
3. Display on a new level
The sleek display on the right lens is high resolution and allows you to use the glasses like a smartphone. You can use it to see what you camera sees when taking a photo, share pictures, check messages, control your music playlist, or even make calls on WhatsApp and Messenger.
4. Finally, a useful AI assistant
With an integrated display, compact and lightweight design, AI can finally become a real companion, helping you with everyday tasks. For example, the new Augmented reality glasses can be used to translate in real time, showing you subtitles – imagine what help that could be when in a foreign country or for people with hearing impairments?
AI can also see through your camera(when asked) to tell you if the fruits or vegetables are ripe, and suggest recipes based on all the products you see you have. If you start fixing something, it can help you do it right or visualize tutorials right in front of you while you are busy.
5. Price
The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses, paired with the Neural Band, cost $799 – making it a really affordable tech gadget to get, unlike most AR, MR, or VR glasses alternatives – and that might be the right recipe to success.
Additionally, the new glasses have an IPX7 water rating and provide six hours of battery life for the glasses and 18 hours for the wristband.
The new “display” glasses will launch on September 30 in the US, and you can find them on Best Buy, LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, and Ray-Ban stores.
We would advise you to get the glasses from a real store, as there are options and sizes you should consider: Meta Ray-Ban Display comes in two sizes (standard & large) and two colors (black & sand) with Transitions lenses. And the Neural Band is available in three different sizes.
Alongside the Display model, Meta also revealed the Ray-Ban Meta (Gen 2) and the Oakley Meta Vanguard, expanding its line of smart glasses with cameras and AI features.
