2027 is right around the corner, and we already have tons of reports, news, and rumors about the upcoming smartphones. Wonder what the big names in the tech industry are preparing to release in 2027? Well, this is the right article to read!

From exciting foldables introducing new, even thinner designs and phones without bezels, all the way to exciting tri-fold smartphones that turn your smartphone into a giant tablet. Are you curious? Let’s take a look at the most exciting new phones coming in 2027!

Watch the video:

1. Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold 2

Samsung’s second-generation tri-fold could be one of the most talked-about phones releasing in 2027. The Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is reportedly being developed with a much slimmer and lighter design in mind, potentially bringing its folded thickness down from around 12.9mm to roughly 8.9mm. A redesigned hinge could also improve durability and make the multi-folding display more resistant to long-term wear.

Samsung may also address one of the biggest complaints about the first-generation design by switching to a shorter, wider aspect ratio, making the cover screen more comfortable to use. An integrated S Pen slot is another rumored addition, and this time it is expected to be widely released. If Samsung manages to make a tri-fold phone feel closer to a conventional smartphone when folded, the TriFold 2 could be a major step forward for foldable design. It is expected to be released in early 2027, so stay tuned!

2. Apple iPhone Air 2

The iPhone Air 2 is highly anticipated, and since the rumors suggest it will get a second camera, this might become a really exciting new smartphone to have! One of the biggest rumored upgrades is a second 48MP ultrawide camera, giving the phone a much more versatile camera system than its predecessor’s single rear sensor.

Battery life could also receive an important boost, with reports pointing to a 3,500mAh battery compared with the original’s 3,149mAh capacity. The A20-series chip and a rumored vapor chamber cooling system could further improve performance and thermal management without giving up the phone’s slim design. A smaller Dynamic Island and a new lavender color could provide some visual changes as well. If these upgrades arrive, the Air 2 could retain its thin-and-light identity while feeling considerably less compromised. But would it be even slimmer? We will most likely learn that in the spring when it is expected to be released.

3. Oppo Find N7

Oppo’s Find N foldables always impress with innovation and specs, and we are more than excited to see what the company will achieve with the upcoming 2027 model. Oppo’s Find N7 is expected to go with a wider, passport-like form factor with a shorter and wider cover screen, similar to the iPhone Duo and the 2026 Samsung Galaxy Fold8.

Oppo is reportedly testing new panels from both Samsung Display and BOE, and is also expected to implement hinge and crease-less innovations. But perhaps the most exciting rumor is the enormous 6,500mAh silicon-carbon battery. That would give the Find N7 an unusually large battery for a book-style foldable and could help address one of the biggest concerns with thin folding phones: endurance. It is expected in spring or summer 2027.

4. Nothing’s 2027 Smartphone Lineup

Nothing, known for its more creative phone designs, could dramatically expand its smartphone lineup in 2027. After three devices in 2026, the company reportedly plans to introduce around six smartphones in 2027, giving consumers considerably more choice across different price categories.

Two mysterious devices with model numbers A006 and A010 have already appeared in the IMEI database, suggesting that development is well underway. There is also speculation about a new main flagship, most likely the Nothing Phone 4, while the future of the company’s budget-focused CMF lineup is reportedly still being evaluated. With Nothing’s distinctive approach to industrial design and software, a larger 2027 lineup could make the company much more interesting to watch.

5. Sony Xperia 1 IX

Sony is expected to give its flagship Xperia camera system a major hardware upgrade. The Xperia 1 IX is rumored to feature a larger primary camera sensor, potentially ending a camera sensor size that Sony has carried across several generations. The larger sensor could improve low-light photography, although it may also require a redesigned and more prominent camera module.

Under the hood, the phone is expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, while Sony’s 3.5mm headphone jack is widely expected to remain. For Sony fans, that combination of traditional enthusiast-friendly features and a potentially much larger main camera sensor could make the Xperia 1 IX particularly compelling. We expect to see it in Q2 2027.

6. Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra

The Galaxy S27 Ultra could be one of Samsung’s biggest flagship upgrades in several generations, particularly if the rumored battery and camera changes become reality. Samsung is reportedly considering a 5,700mAh silicon-carbon battery with 60W wired charging, potentially giving the Ultra both more capacity and faster charging.

The camera system could also receive a significant redesign. Instead of separate protruding camera rings, Samsung may use a unified raised camera plateau similar to Apple’s iPhone Pro. More importantly, the company is rumored to be dropping the dedicated 3x telephoto camera in favor of using the 200MP main sensor for in-sensor cropping while retaining an upgraded 5x periscope camera.

The display could also get some updates – with a 6.9-inch M16 OLED panel and new privacy display features. It is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2027.

7. Vivo X500 Ultra

Vivo’s X500 Ultra might be the most camera-focused smartphone of 2027! The company is reportedly experimenting with several 200MP periscope telephoto sensors, including versions measuring 1/1.12, 1/1.3 and 1/1.4 inches, in an effort to balance low-light zoom performance with the physical size of the camera module.

Interestingly, Vivo is reportedly moving away from a dedicated 10x periscope camera and instead relying on a high-resolution 200MP periscope sensor combined with sophisticated in-sensor zoom. The main camera could also move to an upgraded 50MP 35mm sensor with improved stabilization, while ZEISS is expected to continue working with Vivo on the optics and imaging software.

All models in the series are expected to come with huge batteries, and if Vivo can combine that endurance with its ambitious camera hardware, this could be a serious camera flagship. The Ultra model will be released in China around March-April, and we expect to see it globally later in 2027.

8. Xiaomi 20 Pro Max

The Xiaomi 20 Pro Max is still one of the more mysterious phones on this list, but even its rumored existence is intriguing. Reports suggest Xiaomi could skip the number 19 and move directly to the Xiaomi 20 series, potentially making the 20 Pro Max a major milestone device for the company.

There are few concrete specifications at this point, but rumors suggest a nearly bezel-less quad-curved display, a bigger silicon-carbon battery, and deeper on-device AI capabilities. As for the back display, there are no details on what will change. We expect to see it in September-October 2027.

9. Apple iPhone 20 Pro

To celebrate the iPhone’s 20th anniversary, the company is rumored to skip iPhone 19 and go directly to iPhone 20. For the occasion, the Pro and Pro Max models are expected to represent a much bigger design change than the typical yearly iPhone refresh.

Apple is rumored to be working toward an almost entirely glass exterior with quad-curved edges, potentially making the phone look like a single uninterrupted piece of glass.

The display could also grow slightly, with the Pro reportedly targeting around 6.41 inches and the Pro Max around 6.96 inches. Even more dramatically, Apple could move Face ID and the front-facing camera under the display, allowing it to eliminate or at least significantly reduce the Dynamic Island.

Other rumored changes include Apple’s next-generation A21 Pro chip, custom-designed image sensors, and as much as 16GB of RAM. Solid-state buttons with haptic feedback have also been rumored yet take this with a grain of salt. If Apple combines these changes into one generation, the iPhone 20 Pro could end up being one of the company’s most visually distinctive iPhones in years. We expect to see them as usual, in September 2027.

10. Google Pixel 12 Pro XL

Google’s Pixel 12 Pro XL could be the centerpiece of a four-phone Pixel 12 lineup, reportedly joining the standard Pixel 12, Pixel 12 Pro and Pixel 12 Pro Fold. The large Pro XL model is rumored to use the internal codename “Silverback” and is rumored to bring a refreshed design after several generations of relatively familiar Pixel styling.

Performance could be powered by Google’s next-generation Tensor G7 chip, with leaks suggesting a move toward a more advanced manufacturing process that could improve efficiency. Battery capacity and charging might finally get some attention, with expectations for larger batteries and potentially 45W-or-faster charging on the larger models.

The Pixel 12 Pro XL is also expected to continue Google’s focus on AI, with its Tensor hardware providing the foundation for increasingly capable on-device features. With a potential design refresh and stronger hardware arriving alongside Google’s next generation of even more powerful AI features, the Pro XL has the potential to become one of the most hyped devices of 2027.
