Spot cleaners have become one of the most popular home gadgets lately, promising an easy way to rescue couches, chairs, mattresses, and car interiors without calling cleaning assistance, but can a compact $150 device actually deliver impressive results?

After spending a few days with the Rowenta Clean It, the answer is surprisingly close to yes.

This compact wet-cleaning machine turned out to be one of those gadgets that quickly becomes part of your regular cleaning routine – especially if you have kids, pets, or furniture that sees constant daily use.

Watch our video review:

First Impressions

Right out of the box, the Rowenta Clean It impresses with its compact and lightweight design. The set includes several accessories depending on what you want to clean:

  • Crevice tool
  • Auto-clean accessory
  • Narrow brush
  • Wide brush
  • 250ml cleaning solution
  • Shoe Brush (not included in my set)

The device itself is super compact to fit comfortably on a shelf, and it’s surprisingly lightweight (before filling the water tank).

I like how you can easily monitor both the clean water and detergent levels, which makes setup simpler, so you can just fill the water tank and add the required amount of detergent.

The hose and power cord are also long enough to comfortably clean sofas, chairs, carpets, and even car interiors without constantly moving the machine around.

Testing the Rowenta Clean It

After several days of testing, the biggest surprise was how quickly the spot cleaner became genuinely useful around the house. It works with a single button, and there’s no learning curve. So, let’s see how Rowenta Clean It dealt with our fabric furniture.

Bar Chairs: The First Real Test

The first challenge involved everyday used bar chairs that had become difficult to clean with regular sprays and cloths.

This was the moment the Rowenta Clean It immediately impressed. The combination of spraying, brushing, and extracting dirty water made a visible difference almost instantly. And perhaps most importantly, the family cat approved the results. Here’s his opinion:

Cleaning the Couch: Learning the Limits

Next came the couch, using the wider brush attachment. This was also where the first mistake happened, but it’s my fault.

Instead of cleaning smaller sections gradually, I sprayed too much water across a larger area at once. As a result, moisture penetrated deeper into the fabric before extraction.

The lesson here is simple: work in smaller sections and avoid over-saturating upholstery. After I learnt my lesson, the cleaner handled the couch much more effectively.

Desk Chair Rescue

One of the best results came from cleaning my daughter’s desk chair that had become nearly impossible to refresh using traditional cleaning methods. The Rowenta cleaner pulled visible dirt from the fabric, and the before-and-after difference was dramatic enough to make this one of the standout moments during testing.

Car Seat Cleaning

I also used the spot cleaner to clean a child’s car seat, although the difference was less noticeable because the seat had already been cleaned recently.

What About Mattresses?

The Rowenta Clean It was also tested on our mattress. The results were decent, but if you already own a dedicated mattress vacuum, using the spot cleaner may feel unnecessary. Mattresses also require significantly more drying time after wet cleaning, so I would advise you to consider sleeping anywhere else for at least one night.

After all the tests, here is how to dirty water container looks like:

You can’t imagine my satisfaction when I saw the actual dirt.

Self-Cleaning Feature Is Genuinely Useful

One unexpectedly impressive feature is the self-cleaning system.

Cleaning wet vacuums and spot cleaners can be annoying, but in this case, Rowenta has simplified the process as much as possible. The self-cleaning mode helps quickly flush the hose and internal system, making maintenance much easier after each use. And will eliminate the possible dirt odor.

The process is really simple – put the Auto-clean accessory and place it into the clean water tank(just fill it with water before that). And click the On button, in 30 seconds, you just have to stop the appliance, and you are done. 🙂

What I Like

  • Impressive Cleaning Results
For everyday furniture and upholstery cleaning, the Rowenta performs better than expected for its price range.
  • Compact & Lightweight
It’s small enough to store easily on a shelf and light enough to carry around the house without effort.
  • Easy to Use
Operation is extremely straightforward with simple controls and quick setup.
  • Great for Homes With Pets or Kids
Fabric furniture gets dirty fast, especially with pets, children, or heavy daily use. This cleaner makes maintaining upholstery far easier.
  • Excellent for Car Interiors
The hose length and attachments make it practical for all kinds of furniture and elements.

What I Don’t Like

The biggest downside is accessory storage.

The included attachments cannot be mounted directly onto the machine when stored, meaning you’ll need to store them separately. It’s not a major issue, but integrated storage would have made the design much more convenient to grab and go.

Final Verdict

The Rowenta Clean It turned out to be one of those surprisingly useful household gadgets that solves a real problem without overcomplicating things or taking up extra space. It’s easy to use, powerful enough, and affordable compared to larger carpet-cleaning systems. While it won’t completely replace specialized cleaning tools for every situation, it excels at everyday fabric maintenance.

For couches, chairs, textile furniture, and car interiors, this little machine does magic. And once you see the dirty water tank after the first cleaning session, you’ll probably start looking for more things to clean.

So, is Rowenta Clean It worth it? – YES! It’s a surprisingly good cleaning appliance to get for your home!
