Samsung’s next flagship is still far away, but early leaks are already revealing what the Galaxy S27 Ultra might bring. The successor to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to launch in early 2027, and while the design may remain familiar, several upgrades could make it an outstanding device.

Rumors suggest improvements in security features, processing power, new AI capabilities, and we will finally see some big upgrades to the camera system. Here’s a quick look at what we currently know about Samsung’s next Ultra flagship.

Release Date

Following Samsung’s traditional schedule, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will likely be announced during a Galaxy Unpacked event in Q1 2027. The phone is expected to launch alongside the standard Samsung Galaxy S27 and Samsung Galaxy S27+ models. Usually, the new lineup is announced in late January, yet we saw a change with the S25 lineup – the trend might continue with the Galaxy S27 models.

Camera Upgrades

One of the biggest rumored changes is the main camera sensor. Leaks from multiple tipsters suggest Samsung may introduce a new 200 MP sensor, potentially called ISOCELL HPA or HP6. The new sensor may support LOFIC technology, allowing improved dynamic range and better HDR performance. The selfie and the ultra-wide cameras are also expected to see hardware improvements.

Expected camera setup:

  • 200 MP main camera (new sensor)
  • 50 MP ultra-wide camera(new sensor)
  • 50 MP periscope zoom camera
  • 10 MP 3x telephoto camera
  • 12 MP selfie camera (new sensor)

New Security Feature

However, a new authentication feature called Polar ID could arrive. The system is rumored to work similarly to Apple Face ID, using advanced sensors to recognize the user’s face (even in the dark), while detecting masks or fake images. Importantly, it may work without requiring a large notch or cutout.

Performance and Hardware

Of course, as with any previous model, we will see a new chipset – this time probably the rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 created on 2nm process. It is too early to say if there will be an Exynos-powered international version.

As for the RAM and storage – these might stay the same as S26: 12-16GB RAM and 256GB, 512GB, 1TB storage options.

Software and AI

The device is expected to launch with Android 17 and Samsung One UI 9.5. Samsung will likely continue expanding its Galaxy AI features, including smarter automation, improved assistant capabilities through Samsung Bixby, and enhanced contextual tools.

Expected Price

There are no confirmed price leaks yet.

Design

Design changes are expected to be minimal, with Samsung likely keeping the overall look introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Conclusion

If the rumors prove accurate, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could bring major improvements in camera technology, performance, and security. However, with the launch still about a year away, the current Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra remains a powerful flagship option today.

More leaks will likely appear in the coming months, giving us a clearer picture of what Samsung’s 2027 Ultra flagship will actually deliver. So stay tuned!
