1. Armor 28 Ultra Thermal Version
This super tough smartphone comes packed with some wild features you won’t find on just any phone—like night vision and thermal imaging!
But that’s not all. It also has a secondary display on the back that lets you use widgets like time, calendar, weather, and more. Definitely not your average phone!
2. LG Wing 5
Ever wished you could watch a YouTube video and text a friend without switching apps? LG had the same idea when they released the LG Wing 5G in 2020.
It had a rotating display that flipped out into a T-shape, allowing you to use two apps at once. Was it practical? Debatable. But was it creative? Undeniable!
3. Razer Project Linda
Back at CES 2018, Razer introduced a smartphone concept that could power a laptop dock, transforming your phone into a full-blown computer. Unfortunately, it never hit the market, but the idea of a phone doubling as a laptop was definitely ahead of its time.
4. Rollable Lenovo Phone
Foldable phones are cool, but rollable phones? Even cooler! Lenovo showcased a rollable phone prototype, where the screen could extend or retract.
Many more companies are working on similar rollable display phones, but sadly, no company has actually released one yet. However, we’re hopeful for the future, and here we have a video with some more rollable phone concepts.
5. Changhong H2 – The Molecular Scanning Phone
This one sounds straight out of a sci-fi movie! Back in 2017, Changhong H2 was introduced with a built-in molecular sensor that could analyze food, medicine, and even body metrics.
One of the company’s demos? Scanning Viagra pills to check if they were real or fake. (Never considered that as a real problem, but, yep, that happened)
6. Asus PadFone -The Phone/Tablet
The Asus PadFone was a genius concept: a smartphone that could transform into a tablet by docking it into a larger screen. Add a keyboard, and boom—it became a laptop. It was a brilliant idea, but maybe a bit ahead of its time.
7. Bendable Motorola Phone
In 2024, Motorola showcased a bendable smartphone that could wrap around your wrist like a smartwatch. It’s still a concept, but imagine wearing your phone like a bracelet—talk about futuristic!
8. Samsung Galaxy Beam with Built-in Projector
You may remember when Samsung released a phone called Galaxy Beam… the one with a built-in projector. Galaxy Beam lets you display videos or presentations on a wall, and while the concept was exciting, the execution wasn’t perfect.(pricing was one of the biggest issues)
But wouldn’t it be amazing to see this idea return with today’s tech?
9. Google’s Modular Phone
Imagine a smartphone where you could swap out different parts of your smartphone instead of replacing the whole device.
Google’s Project Ara aimed to make this a reality with Project Ara and its modular phone components. With such device, you could upgrade the battery, camera, or processor independently, and build the perfect phone for your needs.
Sadly, it never became a real product.
10. YotaPhone The Dual-Screen Phone
YotaPhone had a second screen on the back, using e-ink technology just like an e-reader. It was a dream for book lovers who didn’t need to bring an e-reader in their pocket…sadly, the company filed for bankruptcy, making this phone almost impossible to find nowadays.
11. Huawei Mate XT
Released in late 2024, the Huawei Mate XT became the world’s first trifold smartphone, unfolding into a 10-inch tablet. Of course, a device like this comes with a premium price, but it’s a game-changer for those who want a phone-tablet hybrid.
12. Nothing Phone 2A Neon
In 2024, Nothing released a limited-edition phone that glows in the dark! Thanks to its green phosphorescent material, it absorbs light and glows for hours. While it doesn’t add much functionality, it definitely looks cool—especially alongside the signature LED lights(Called Glyphs) that Nothing is known for.
